Where are Hoover Vacuums made?

There are a plethora of manufacturers of floor cleaning products in the market. All of them offer a variety of cleaning products. Every brand has a history of struggle and innovation, so is the case with HOOVER. Hoover has been serving the masses for more than a hundred years. That means 100 years of efficiency and excellence. Today, we will talk about hoover, its history, struggles, products, and much more.

A little about HOOVER

Hoover is now part of TTI Floor Care North America since 2007 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since its inception, hoover has been serving its customers with powerful and easy-to-use products. Their excellent products are highly efficient at cleaning your entire home, from floor to ceiling, and even the air you breathe; this is why Hoover is a household icon in-floor cleaning, and people trust them with all their hearts.

The hero of the hoover thriller is Murray Spangler. The genius inventor used to work as a janitor. During his service, he developed severe asthma. Asthma used to keep him up at night, and these sleepless nights led Murray to invent something that could deal with the dust and ultimately put a stopper to his growing asthma problem.

The very first Vacuum Cleaner

Finally, an idea clicked Murray’s mind, and he developed the very first hand-made vacuum. He made a cumbersome and odd-looking contraption by assembling a tin soapbox, a fan, a sateen pillowcase, and a broom handle. The thing he created could pull the dust away from the air he breathed. He called his invention a suction sweeper. Instantly he realizes that many others like him would also need this kind of thing in their homes.

Furthermore, many like him might be suffering from dust problems; this invention can hit two birds with one stone. Not only will it provide ease to the people suffering from dust allergies, but this could also be a hot selling item in the market. Thinking of this, he began to seek financial help for assembling, distributing, and promoting his marvelous discovery.

Journey of Hoover vacuums

To full fill his dreams of launching his suction sweeper in the market, Spangler sold the patent design to W.H. “Boss” Hoover in 1908. Boss was the owner of a leather goods manufacturing shop. Boss retained Spangler as a partner in this new business. Soon after the agreement, Boss appointed six employees to do the assembling task. These engineers assembled six units a day. Boss set up the assembling unit in the corner of the leather goods shop.

Marketing and Distribution of Hoover Vacuums

For the marketing of the newly launched product, Boss Hoover planned to place a small ad in the Saturday Evening Post. to gain the attention and interest of potential buyers, he offered ten days’ free use in the ad to anyone who wrote and requested the hoover suction sweeper. In addition, he decided to send the suction sweeper to a reputable store in each city instead of sending it directly to the customers. The customers can then purchase from the dedicated store.

To make the store managers happy, he allowed them to keep any commission from a resulting sale. And, to gain their trust, he also offered the store an opportunity to become a certified Hoover vacuum dealer; this is how Boss Hoover builds the groundwork for a national dealer network. Even to this day, those old dealers are still an important distribution channel for Hoover products.

The Beater Bar Invention

While Boss Hoover was busy making dealers nationwide for hoover products, their engineers were busy designing new and improved methods to enhance carpet cleaning. In 1926, these fantastic engineers introduced one of their most noteworthy innovations, the beater bar. This innovation was the basis for one of the most memorable and enticing advertising slogans ever made in history: the slogan “It beats, as it sweeps, as it cleans,” you can feel the beat just by reading it. This beater bar was aided by solid suction. Then a metal bar gently taps the carpet to loosen the deeply embedded dirt, and at the same time, a bristle brush quickly swipes the dirt up and out of the carpet.

The beater bar is still utilized in most Hoover vacuum cleaners to date. Hoover engineers have developed countless other “firsts” over the years to give consumers the most innovative and convenient experience every time. These developments include

  • The disposable paper bag
  • The vacuum cleaner headlight
  • The self-propelled feature
  • The side-mounted hose feature
